Window into White

The exploration of type and form through the lens of the color white.

  • Create a series of typographically focused posters with the common theme of one color.

  • The color white (or lack thereof) is associated with many meanings, both good and bad. It can represent things like purity, innocence, space, cleanliness, and freshness, or it can represent things that are cold, sterile, bland, and austere. The key to determining if the word has a positive or negative connotation is context.

  • I developed a series of posters to explore how white objects and concepts manifest in our everyday lives. I chose to use a physical process of creating the words and phrases for the posters, rather than digital one, as I wanted to capture the detail of each object to bring it to life. My process included many rounds of concepting, creating, staging, photographing, and editing before arriving at the final image.
