Develop a visual design system for an existing local business with poorly designed signage.

The original sign for The Critter Gitter that served as the inspiration for this project was found on a bulletin board inside an old local market in Romeo, Michigan. The company specializes in non-traditional animal removal services, using a proprietary all-natural spray that is safe for both animals and humans, rather than typical trapping methods. They stand by their motto: “If you trap, they come back. If you spray, they stay away.”

I developed a type system to bring a level of professionalism and trust to the company and their work so that they can grow their business. The new system was used across various applications, including a booklet, a poster series, and a website. I chose to use a black, gray, and yellow color palette along with sturdy typefaces to evoke the feelings of dependability and safety. I incorporated polygonal shapes with sharp diagonals as a graphic element to evoke the roofline of a home, a favorite hiding spot of many critters.
